April at the Abbey: The Cross, Easter, and Spiritual Formation

Throughout the history of Christian experience, those who have been profoundly affected by the story of Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection have described its meaning and significance in a variety of ways. Ever since Jesus, people have been trying to figure out what to say about Jesus!

Join us at the Westside Abbey in April as we explore some historical and modern interpretations of these events in the life of Jesus and ask ourselves, what does this story mean to me, my spiritual formation, and the formation of my community? What does it tell us about God? About ourselves? How does it challenge and invite us?

Church Conference

Westwood First hosts an annual conference with a different theme each year, typically held in the early summer, following Easter. 2025's event was the Soul Place Gathering (keep scrolling to learn more).  Come join us in 2026 and grow in faith and community.

About "Soul Place" Gathering

Soul Place 2026 is a gathering focused on place and spiritual formation using the Celtic themes of "place, pilgrimage, poetry, presence, and prophetic imagination." (adapted from Ian Bradley's book, The Celtic Way.) This is a two-day gathering, focused on moving from a transactional social imagination to a transformational one for the flourishing of one's humanity and community. It will include short presentations along with creative, intentional conversational formats and small groups.  Practitioners, clergy, community leaders, connectors, and others will spend time in "brave space", personally and corporately to deepen awareness and connection.
