Westwood First Presbyterian Church demonstrates the transforming love of God in our community and around the world through local ministries, as well as support for community groups and national and international missions. The Mission Committee is always looking for opportunities to involve members and friends in meaningful mission and ministry. An annual Mission Fair in November highlights a number of these and allows individuals to shop for alternative Christmas gifts in the form of donations.
For information about any of these ministries and missions, or to find out how to get involved, contact the church office and you will be put in touch with a member of our Mission Committee.
Parish Nurse
Parish nurse Jan Hunter focuses on four areas of ministry: health educator, health advocate, health counselor and health consultant. As educator, she provides pamphlets and brochures and teaches classes on timely, health-related topics. As a health counselor, she advises church members on health-related decisions, making visits to a hospital, nursing home or home. As an advocate, she provides a link between a church member and his/her family and health care agencies, facilitating a member's ability to utilize the health care system effectively. As a consultant, she makes recommendations to the Health Ministries Committee and the church staff. The parish nurse is NOT a replacement for medical treatment or home health care. Feel free to contact Jan at #661-6846, Ext. 109 or jan@wfpc.org, with your concerns and questions. Shared information is always considered confidential.
Support Groups
The Grief Support Group is for those experiencing grief through death of a loved one or any other difficult experience of life. This group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00PM at church with our Parish Nurse Jan Hunter and Pastor Steve Gorman. Call #661-6846, Ext. 109 with any questions.
Final Friday Dinners
The last Friday evening of each month our doors are open, or we gather outside, for a free meal served to all. Volunteers set-up, cook, welcome, join in conversation and clean-up. Anyone who shows is fed a wonderful meal between 5:30 – 6:30! Come, join in the FFD. Call us for contacts.
Job Search Focus Satellite Group
All community members are welcome to learn from and support one another in the job-seeking process. Speakers present valuable content about the latest in electronic resumes, LinkedIn, effective networking, interview skills, available funding and community resources. Group members provide support and accountability to one another during this stressful time.
CROP Walk
Each October our members participate in this special walk to alleviate hunger. Contributions are distributed between national and local concerns. This is also done on Souperbowl Sunday when our youth collect change tossed into soup pots!
